walkabout

Ok - I'm now officially walking.

I've been taking a few little stes more and more commonly, but Mum and Dad finally gave me "walking" when I managed to take 19 steps last night when I walked across the room between them. We all thought it was brilliant and everyone cheered!

Mum seems in two minds though - I can tell she's excited that I'm walking around, but I've also overheard her saying something about me only being 10 and a half months and that she should have at least another 6 weeks before she has to deal with me getting more and more mobile. Personally, I don't know why she's concerned - now that I'm walking I can help out more around the house - I can find my way into all the rooms, and instead of just sitting on the floor playing with my toys, I can follow her around the house just in case she needs me for anything.

taking a stand all by myself

We had another look at "the house" today - some men came and looked at which walls we can move so I can have more time to play around. That's not the interesting bit today though - the news from today is that I stood up all by myself. I was in the front yard with Mum and wanted to stand up, I'm used to having the couch or coffee table around to lean on but they weren't there, so I concentrated hard, and steadied myself, and managed to stand straight up until Mum came close enough for me to step to her so she'd pick me up. Mum and Dad thought it was pretty cool.

a new domain...

Mum, Dad and I bought a house tonight. It looks like we'll be moving out of our place and into the new one before Christmas. We have to get it checked out by some men who know what they're doing [inspections, building reports etc], but it looks like we're going to have a lot more space to play around. There's a front and back yard, and Mum is especially happy not to have to carry me (and all my things) up three flights of stairs every time we go out.

The new house has a lot more rooms so I guess that means I'll be getting a lot more things soon [actually, it means we can finally get some of the boxes of books etc out of storage that were put away before Emily came to stay with us].

it's tough at the top...

I made it to the top of the stairs in one go today! I can't count that high, but Dad says it's eighteen stairs - and there's a funny bit at the top where it turns the corner so you have to make sure you use the big bit of the step. The first few times I did it I tried to use the small part of the step and Dad said it looked like I was rock-climbing.

A while ago I said I had one of those teeth-things come down from the top of my mouth - well, I've now got another to keep it company. This makes it a lot easier to click my teeth together and give them a little grind every now and then - each time I do that Dad makes a funny face [that would be a "cringe" - it's like dragging fingernails across a whiteboard for Tim].

I have another cold at the moment - we're hoping that it's just because of the new tooth, but I don't feel all that good and I'm not sleeping well. [I know what she means - both Mum and Dad have got a bit of a cold as well and having Emily waking up 4 or 5 times through the night to have a little complain isn't making it easy to shake the flu symptoms!]

baby steps...

Wow - a big day today - I used to like standing, but I've found something way more fun - steps! See, what you do is pull yourself up to standing, then, and here's the tricky bit, you let go of whatever you're holding onto and take a couple of steps before grabbing onto something else. It's like a combination of standing and the thing that I've been doing where I walk around the couch/table by holding onto it. I find that if I let go of whatever it is I'm holding Mum and Dad freak out and give me a big cheer and round of applause. Well.. that's so much fun that I do it a few times just to get the reaction - sometimes parents make the best pets.

climbing a stairway to... the loft

This weekend was lots of fun - my Dad didn't have to go to work on the Monday so we got to hang out and play for 3 days in a row.

I've been a bit sniffly lately, and have been having problems sleeping through the night - it's not that I want to wake up, just that when I do, my mouth has been hurting and I just want Mum or Dad to come in and let me know things are going to be ok. Anyway, just recently I've figured out why - a while ago I had these teeth things pop out of the bottom of my mouth and now one has come down from the top - it's kind of weird, but feels like it might come in handy.

I put my new tooth to good use on Monday morning when Mum and Dad gave me my toast, but instead of just butter, they put this stuff on it called "vegemite". It's *brilliant!* - it makes the toast taste much better and apparently it means I'm a true blue Aussie.

As well as the new tooth and vegemite, I've found out that if I try hard enough I can get up the things in the corner of the room that go up to Dad's computer. I haven't made it to the top yet, but I have managed to get up 4 or 5 of the "steps". When I get tired, I just stop - either Mum or Dad are always right there behind me so I just look at them, lift up my arms and they carry me back downstairs. One time, Dad showed me what was at the top - lots of space and all sorts of cables and wires and another one of those boxes that he uses to update my blog on.

I reckon it will only be another week or so before I'll be able to go up there and play by myself. [umm... I don't think that's going to happen]

Oh - and one more thing - Dylan, Alex and I have moved up to "big kid class" at gymbaroo - it's a new teacher and we can get around a lot more so it's a lot of fun.

a quick trip

We've all just returned from Queensland for a holiday - my Dad even got time off work!

Apparently I've been up there before but I can't really remember it - it was for my Christening ages and ages ago.

This time we stayed for 4 days and I met up with some of my cousins. Samuel is the closest to me in age and he showed me a few little tricks - I've been standing up for a couple of weeks and starting to get around by holding onto things and stepping - he's running and walking around so I'm pretty keen to do the same.

I said before that I've been to the biggest bathtub (which turned out to be a pool), but wow.. Samuel and I went to the absolute biggest - they call it "the ocean" - it was so big that it couldn't keep still - and it was surrounded by sand. It was my first time touching sand and it was really weird to play with it (it tasted alright too) [probably one of the benefits of not having teeth to have the sand "crunch" between].

I hung out with Gram and Pa a couple of times whilst my Mum and Dad went to the movies - which meant that I got to empty out Gram's tupperware cupboard and play with almost anything I want! Pa and I did a couple of crosswords and I helped him pick some horses to bet on. [if only there was a horse named "Drooly McBabbleMouth" we'd know her tips for sure!]

My Dad took me to see the Big Pineapple - I'll get him to put up the photos (but he's been pretty slack with keeping my site up to date so I don't know how long it will take him!) - it was something that he remembers from when he was a little kid. We didn't get to go on any of the rides (just as well as I was pretty tired and enjoyed having a sleep in the car on the way home).

One more thing - Gram and Pa's house is officially the first time I've had to deal with a step - apparently when you put a few together you get stairs and they're supposed to be hard to deal with. The step was between the dining room and the back deck - I managed to crawl up ok, and coming back down was a little strange, but I managed to get through it without losing any skin off my nose or doing a faceplant.

pool party

My mum took me to meet some of my friends today at the biggest bathtub I've ever seen!

I met up with Dylan, Keely & Jonte and we all dressed up in our "togs" (well - my dad calls them "togs" my mum keeps making a fppht sound and correcting him with "cossie") and splashed around in what I found out was called a "pool".

It was a lot of fun - we sang songs, splashed around and when Mum says "under for a swim" I get to put my head under the water (it took a little bit of time to get used to closing my mouth and eyes but I think I've got it). It's a lot of things to remember - I have to "kick, kick, kick", and "dig, dig, dig" and blow bubbles. I think we're going to go again next week so I hope I get it all right next time.

By the way, I'm still practising standing - I'm starting to get pretty good at it.

8 months old today....

... and my favourite pastime is...

standing!

- I know, I know - I told you about it the other day, but today I'm 0.6666 years old (can you tell I'm my father's daughter?) so I thought an update was due.

my favourite at the moment is standing in my cot when Mum thinks I'm asleep - I've just discovered that the top rail on my cot tastes great, so any chance I get, I stand up and chew on it... brilliant! to think, it's been there all this time and I've been foolishly lying on the mattress looking at it!

Taking a stand for Father's Day

Today was Father's Day so I thought I'd give Dad something special - being a baby, it's hard to get to the shops and buy anything, and I don't really have the skills to make something yet, so I decided to stand up by myself. (we don't "count" something until Emily has done it three times otherwise we write it off as an accident/coincidence - today she pulled herself up a few times - as quick as if she has been doing it for months! She seems pretty happy about it, but honestly, we're a little freaked out that she's about to be mobile)
